In trying to please everybody, the ABC is pleasing nobody. Many clearly commentate when they should just report, which makes them worse than much Commercial media. Young reporters are not well trained when old hands add adjectives and write what they feel and like to say and fill their reports with feelings.
The incompetent United Nations may support gas lighting or the stupid tyranny of silencing anyone who elicits anger, but God help us if we stop people speaking freely on that basis ; None of us would remain married.
A childlike reactionary lot
I am sure that ABC Melbourne, ABC NEWS and QANDA did not , for example, realize their respectful thinking audience were switching them off well before the stats came in.
Many thinking country people were switching them off a decade ago , but the comfort club did not know .
I feel for all those in the country who relied on 3LO and Radio National . Sky news is not perfect but The ABC is now untrustworthy ( esp on matters that affect big picture ECO) and country people are listening to other sources; Not ideal .
Toward a more sustainable Independant Broadcaster
Most of the old club should retire; they have had their chance to perform .The competency levels required to report on economy and environment MUST move with the need for higher competency and gravitas in those areas.(I talk about how it might survive its own self destructive comfort zone commitment to careers elsewhere) .
If the ABC is to have a future it must focus on mature communication and ditch the commentariat of incompetent inexperienced careless cynical and feebleminded noisemakers
The ABC, even when visiting back roads with Heather has little sense they are kindergarten entrants in the tough game of making a living out there. Muster dogs ( where at last we have some humility to the fore) and landline are good programs but they often are only made to please the patronisers in the city.
Opportunities to do good comedy are being missed
While it is not always "the city selling us solutions as if we are stupid" our ABC has missed the chance to do in COMEDY terms what "Clarksons farm" has done for the world.
It's the city SmartA's who should be laughed at. Absolutely.
Time to go to confession. Jeremy has gone to confession and done the worlds farmers in one episode what the ABC and other media have never done in decades.
Imagine how much more the ABC could sell to the world if it wasn't so religious and arrogant about its ability to solve the worlds environment problems . Imagine the excitement amongst young people to do physics and chemistry if real world scientists were explaining how we already feed the world in many relatively sustainable ways on this dry continent !
Imagine the ABC doing something even better and more robust than " A Country Practice "
SEPTEMBER 2025 13th
There were to be fair some good young reporters taking to the protests in Melbourne today but the producers clearly have this bad habit of selecting what suits them. A celebration for the assassinated Kirk by thousands trumps the hundreds repeating the same old on our streets.
That poor reporting and training of young staff should get producers sacked !
Clearly there are people in the management of the ABC who think we are stupid . We know that many in there who are old, tired and predictable and should be told their appointment ends. And yes they are being punished in some cases for incompetent reporting and very poor leadership in their field.
The main point is
- There is no discipline in that place that works.
- No respect much for interviewing people who have lots of life experience or reporting well.
